Rich Cahill

Painter, Tattoo Artist, Musician

Rich Cahill began his passion for art at a young age, drawing comics and logos for friends and family. In his teen years, he found punk music and played drums in a hardcore band. While playing shows around New Jersey and New York, he was exposed to punks that had tattoos. He designed tee shirts for his band and decided he wanted to get heavily tattooed.

After the experience of getting his first tattoo in 1991, Rich knew this was his calling. Obsessed with tattoo culture, Rich collected tattoo magazines and drew tattoo flash. While getting tattooed frequently, it wasn’t until 1993 that Rich purchased his first tattoo machines and did his first tattoo: The Cat in the Hat on his friend Greg.

Once he completed his first tattoo, Rich began tattooing his friends and family while working odd jobs. Rich had been tattooing his friends for a year when he met Brian at Living Arts Tattoo in New Hope, PA. Brian showed him everything he would need to start his journey as a tattoo artist.

In 1994-1995 Rich traveled around the south tattooing and ended up north in NYC at Fun City in the summer of 1996. He then work a few years at the Ink Spot in Elizabeth, NJ from 1997-1999. In November 1999 Rich opened his own shop, Immortal Ink. Rich learned a lot from the 10 years of business ownership and ended up selling the shop in 2009. Rich then moved to a private studio in Frenchtown, NJ. This is where Rich honed his skills as an artist and a tattooer. He began to focus on tattooing larger, Japanese pieces and refining his skills as a detailed craftsman. In 2013 Rich was stoked to land a part time position at legendary tattoo shop, New York Adored in NYC. He worked there until they closed the doors in 2018.

Rich closed up the Frenchtown shop in 2018 and currently works at Anchors Aweigh Tattoo in Bradly Beach, NJ. After a long time in the business, Rich feels like he is in his element and doing his best work. He is hopeful that he will continue for many years to come.
